Women's group

Earlier this year we made the decision to extend our women’s service to all day on a Wednesday.  This has enabled us to expand the variety of our women only activities and open it up to more women of all ages.

The activities that we run each week include dance, singing workshop and sewing courses.  We also have regular exercise, yoga, craft sessions and pub lunches.

We are now making good use of the centre’s new kitchen facilities and we plan and cook a lunch most weeks.  We also have regular baking sessions and hope to develop this into an entrepreneurial activity in the near future.

Our service is aimed at supporting women to develop and enhance skills and confidence by providing a place where friendships are made and new experiences are shared.  We hold regular planning sessions and we have recently acquired the skills of a couple of women who wish to join the Management Committee in order to provide a voice for women.

Comments from members of the group;

Debra - ‘The Day Centre functions very well because the hours are not too long and the teas are very nice and not too dear.  There is a television and videos to watch and the meals are very nice and not to dear’.

Joan - ‘Lovely friendly people, very nice staff, good activities such as Baking, Crafts, Bingo, Drinks, Lovely meals, Music, TV, Outings, Playing Games’.

Christine – ‘I like coming to the women’s group because its girls only and get a cheap meal at lunchtime.  I also like the activities like going to Primark in Manchester and going for a pub lunch.  It’s really nice because you can be yourself and chat over a cup of tea and a biscuit.  Everyone helps on another whether it’s helping to make lunch or giving each other support‘.

Brenda – ‘I like the Women’s Group for the cooking and also the reading’.

Mary – ‘Coming to the day centre has been really enjoyable, the trips out have been great and I’ve loved joining in with the baking as it was something new for me and gave me a lot of confidence’.

Other comments include;

‘I enjoy coming to the Women’s Group for the activities, especially pampering, trips out and pub lunches’.

‘I enjoy the Women’s Group because of all the other people that I meet and chat to’.

‘We get together for a chat and meet people’.
