New Developments -  Looking Forward to 2010!!!!

We have lots of plans for the next year and I thought I would take the opportunity to let you know about a few of them!

·                    In addition to the building work for the new Café we have recruited for a Community Café Project Development Worker which is funded with the support of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.  The workers role is to recruit and support people with mental health problems to work as volunteers in the new café and food preparation service.  This project will develop over time and we held an official launch at the end of the summer.

·                    We also have funding available through our successful bid to the Stockport Main Grants Fund.  This funding will enable us to facilitate a variety of courses and workshops to encourage social enterprise.  Priority will be given to employing people who have experience of mental health problems wherever possible.  This will provide the service with the ability to provide new and exciting sessions that can be accessed by our members and members of the local community alike.

·                    In-Reach Service – We are working in partnership with staff at Stepping Hill Mental Health Unit to provide an In-reach service on a sessional basis every 3 weeks.  This will provide our current members with some continuity of service if they should get admitted onto the wards, provide our service with the opportunity to raise our profile for people who may wish to use our service in the future and improve our relationship with the workers in the Mental Health Unit.  This service will be reviewed after a period of 6 months to highlight the benefits for members and our organisation as a whole.

·                    Crafty Crew – This is a new activity that is slowly developing its capacity to create crafts that can be sold to anyone who may be interested.  Facilitated by Robert, one of our volunteers, a group of our members are creating wonderful pieces of art work and with Roberts’s skill and guidance these are being transformed into cards and notelets that can be sold to raise funds for our service.  This is a wonderful opportunity for peoples art work to be shared and for the money raised to go back into the service to provide additional art materials and equipment.
