Activities at Stockport Day Centre

Mondays

11:00 to 12:00noon ~ Women-only swimming group

Once a month session supported by a staff member. Meeting up at the centre at 10:30am to travel down to Grand Central - see staff for more information.

11:00 to 1:00 pm ~ Computers (One to One)

Members are invited to sign up for one-to-one sessions on the computer to help develop their skills with everything from the Internet to word processing

1:00 to 3:00 pm ~ Members Forum (every 3 weeks)

The Members Forum meets every three weeks to plan trips, activities and holidays for all members of the day centre. All members are welcome to get involved.

1:30 to 2:30 pm ~ Relaxation & Wellbeing

Come and join us to learn some simple relaxation techniques and develop a greater sense of personal wellbeing.

5:00 pm ~ Evening Meal

An evening meal is available on Mondays. There is always a vegetarian option available.

6:00 to 8:00 pm ~ Evening Sessions

An easy-going session; we might have a prize bingo game or a film evening & there is free pool practice.

6:00 to 8:00 pm ~ Newsletter Group

Facilitated by one of our volunteers, this group will plan, edit and develop a regular newsletter about the centre and its activities. A great way to learn some new skills! .

Tuesdays

11:00am to 1:00pm ~ IT Course (term-time only)

Facilitated by a tutor from Stockport College, this session offers six places for people to learn and develop their IT skills using our computer suite. Please see staff for more information.

11:30 am to 1:00 pm ~ Book Yourself Up

The day centres book club. If you fancy a good read in relaxed surroundings, or simply want to sit in and listen, then why not join us? We will be reading a chapter or two during each session, with an informal discussion afterwards about the events in the book.

1:30 to 3:30 pm ~ Music Group

We have a variety of musical instruments from bongos to guitars and keyboards. A relaxed group with the emphasis on enjoyment and participation. So if you fancy singing or strumming, join us on a Tuesday afternoon.

2:00 to 4:30 pm ~ Health Spa Group

This group takes place at Grand Central Pools in Stockport. We meet at the centre at 2:00 pm. Enjoy a session in the spa or sauna and a relaxing swim afterwards. All members welcome.

Wednesdays

10:00 to 3:00 pm ~ Women's Group

On Wednesdays the centre itself is open to women only. This means the Women's Group can take advantage of all the facilities on offer, and provides a safe, supportive environment for our female members to enjoy. The group plans regular activities, including trips out, craft sessions, talks, exercise sessions, educational opportunities and much more.

12:00 to 2:00 pm ~ Allotment Group (external)

How do you fancy a good workout and fresh air with good company and the chance to grow your own grub? Then join the day centres new allotment group at the Whitehill Allotments near the Ash Hotel in Reddish (See staff for more details). All day centre members are welcome to join in.

12:00 to 2:00 pm ~ Snooker Group (external)

The Snooker Group meets at The Crucible on Edward Street, Stockport each Wednesday. A chance to socialise outside the centre. All day centre members are welcome to join in.

7:00 to 9:30 pm ~ Horizons

This is a social group that meets every Wednesday evening and offers a wide variety of activities ranging from table tennis to takeaway evenings to pop quizzes. There is a small entrance fee and refreshments are available. All day centre members are welcome.

Thursdays

11:00 am to 1:00 pm ~ Gardening Group

We have a large garden area and lots of ideas to turn it into a pleasant, relaxing environment for our members to enjoy. If you enjoy gardening and want some healthy, outdoor activity why not come along and join us.

1:30 to 3:30 pm ~ Creative Expression

This group offers members the chance to develop creative skills in a supportive and friendly environment. The stress is on FUN and enjoyment. Activities include creative writing, crafts, drama, art, poetry, music and much more. Ideas from members are most welcome.

7:00 to 9:00 pm ~ Beat The Blues (First Thursday of the month only)

Beat the Blues is a support group in Stockport providing information and support to anyone who thinks that they may be suffering from postnatal depression. Set up and run by a group of mothers who have lived with postnatal depression, the group offers a range of different activities and an opportunity to talk to others who feel the same.

Fridays

1:30 am to 1:30 pm ~ Art Group

A very popular group aimed at helping members enjoy and develop their artistic side. We look at different techniques, materials and styles, from Jackson Pollock to Faberge eggs. The group explores a different topic every few weeks, often tied in to regular trips out to art galleries in the area to enjoy important exhibitions. We also take part in occasional external workshops in partnership with other organisations.

2:00 pm ~ Members Meetings (Monthly)

Members Meetings are held on the first Friday of each month, enabling everyone to discuss whats happening at the day centre and put forward their own ideas.

2:00 to 4:00 pm ~ Football Group

Held at a local sports ground on Astroturf. Members meet at the day centre at around 1:30 and transport is provided. We play small-sided games, with the emphasis being on teamwork, skills training & fun! Shirts are provided, but you do need to bring your own shorts and Astroturf boots or trainers! The day centre team also  participates in matches and tournaments involving other centres and organisations.

Saturdays

11:00 am to 5:00 pm ~ Walks On The Wild Side

Although the centre is closed on Saturdays, we have a walking group who meet every other week to walk the length and breadth of the local area. The group provides members with an opportunity for some healthy exercise in the company of a supportive, friendly group . Look out for notices for more information.

Sundays

11:30 to 2:00 pm ~ Open Session & Sunday Lunch

A relaxing morning session with a chance to look at the Sunday Papers. A hot Sunday lunch, with a vegetarian option, is provided at around 1:30

2:00 pm to 4:00 pm ~ Film / Games Afternoon

Our regular Sunday social afternoon enjoy watching a good film in the company of others, or get involved in a Scrabble match or a game of Trivial Pursuits! A chance for members to relax and enjoy the company of friends.
