Service User Involvement Development Worker

What is the ‘S.U.I.D.W?’
This is a dedicated worker who is employed to support and encourage mental health service users across Stockport to have a say in how services are developed and what happens to them.

This consultation can happen in a number of ways. It can be through service user groups, for example the Dual Diagnosis group, or it can be on a one to one basis. The S.U.I.D.W. can come out to see individuals or groups where they feel comfortable, or where they meet, or they are welcome to come into the Service User Resource Office based at Stockport Day Centre.

What can the S.U.I.D.W. do for us?
The S.U.I.D.W. can offer support and training for service user groups wanting to grow and develop both their personal skills and the strength and effectiveness of their group.

Any training or development work is designed for each group individually as everybody has different support needs and aims. Support is ongoing and is not time limited.

The S.U.I.D.W. can also assist new groups in setting up. There is an existing network of support agencies that can offer a great deal of help in terms of expertise, training and publicity to help get your group off the ground. The S.U.I.D.W. can signpost you to these services if required.

The 6A Group.
‘6A’ refers to a section of the National Service Framework that says that service users should be consulted and listened to when services are being developed as they are the experts in their own recovery.

The ‘6A Group’ is a group of service users - some from groups, others on an individual basis - who meet monthly to discuss current issues that have arisen in services and report back on meetings they have attended. It is an open meeting so anyone can attend. Their main object is to inform the Local Implementation Team meeting, (L.I.T.). They usually meet on the last Thursday of the month. If you are interested in attending please contact the S.U.I.D.W. at Stockport Day Centre.
